Department Introduction
The Department of Physics began its educational activities in the Fall Semester of the 1993–1994 Academic Year, following the establishment of our University in 1992. The duration of the undergraduate program is four years, and an optional English preparatory program is also available. In addition to educating its own students, the Department of Physics provides fundamental physics courses for departments within the Faculties of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, as well as for vocational schools, thereby offering extensive educational services across the university.
Since its establishment, the department has successfully carried out numerous academic activities both nationally and internationally, becoming one of the academically strong departments of Dumlupınar University. The academic staff of the department conduct research through various research groups and projects in the fields of theoretical and experimental Nuclear Physics, theoretical and experimental Atomic and Molecular Physics, theoretical High Energy and Plasma Physics, Mathematical Physics, Environmental Radiation, and theoretical and experimental Solid State Physics.
Currently, the Department of Physics employs a total of 11 academic staff members, consisting of 5 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors (Dr.), and 1 Research Assistant with a PhD.
The department has five classrooms with capacities ranging from 30 to 75 students, as well as one meeting hall used for departmental seminars and academic meetings. All classrooms are equipped with computers and projection systems, enabling the effective use of modern educational technologies. Students may benefit from the cafeteria and café located within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences during and after class hours. In addition, the Evliya Çelebi Campus offers extensive social and sports facilities, including an indoor sports hall, an Olympic swimming pool, and outdoor basketball and football fields. The Bedesten area, where the central dining hall is located, provides services such as markets, post office, banking, and cargo facilities. Student dormitories located on campus effectively meet students’ accommodation needs. Within the faculty building, two cafeterias, a stationery shop, and an internet center are also available for student use.
Within the department, the Physics and Astronomy Club (DPÜ-FAST) actively organizes social, cultural, and scientific events. Operating under the supervision of a faculty advisor and a student executive board, the club contributes to both scientific and social activities and has increasingly attracted the attention of students across Dumlupınar University.
At the undergraduate level, the department offers laboratory courses in Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Electronics, Vibrations and Waves, Modern Physics, Solid State Physics, and Atomic and Molecular Physics. For graduate education and research purposes, the department is equipped with Semiconductor Physics Research Laboratories, Nuclear Physics Research Laboratories, Atomic and Molecular Physics Research Laboratories, and Theoretical Physics Research Laboratories. When necessary, these laboratories also serve the needs of other departments and faculties. The laboratories are designed to enable students to become familiar with and apply fundamental experimental techniques related to their courses. Laboratory courses are conducted under the supervision of faculty members, with the assistance of research assistants.
